Character's Failures

This is one of the points this does not prove the Bibleʼs divine attribute, but it shows that it is at least an honest work. Throughout its pages, the writers and characters of the Bible were very open about their own An act which goes against the will and law of God.sin and wrong doing, and did not care to make themselves out to be great people and therefore more reliable or persuasive.
You can contrast that with Joseph Smith who stated that he did more for the church than Jesus ever did1, Muhammad who some say was sinless, or Siddhartha Gautama who is hailed as ʻthe Buddhaʼ which is a person who has attained full enlightenment.
For example:
- Abraham lied more than once about Sarah not being his wife ( (12:12-13) "... and when the Egyptians see you, they will say, ‘This is his wife.’ Then they will kill me, but they will let you live. Say you are my sister, that it may go well with me because of you, and that my life may be spared for your sake.”(20:2) And Abraham said of Sarah his wife, “She is my sister.” And Abimelech king of Gerar sent and took Sarah.Genesis 12:12-13, 20:2)
- Mosesʼ disobeyance to God's direct order that prevented him from entering the promised land ( (20:8) “Take the staff, and assemble the congregation, you and Aaron your brother, and tell the rock before their eyes to yield its water. So you shall bring water out of the rock for them and give drink to the congregation and their cattle.”(20:11-12) And Moses lifted up his hand and struck the rock with his staff twice, and water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their livestock. And the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “Because you did not believe in me, to uphold me as holy in the eyes of the people of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land that I have given them.”Numbers 20:8, 11-12)
- Israel rejected God throughout the whole Old Testament
- Davidʼs adultery and murder (2 Sam 11)
- Peter denying Christ 3 times in the gospels (Luke 22:54-62) and then his fear of being seen eating with the gentiles ( But when Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he stood condemned. For before certain men came from James, he was eating with the Gentiles; but when they came he drew back and separated himself, fearing the circumcision party. And the rest of the Jews acted hypocritically along with him, so that even Barnabas was led astray by their hypocrisy. But when I saw that their conduct was not in step with the truth of the gospel, I said to Cephas before them all, “If you, though a Jew, live like a Gentile and not like a Jew, how can you force the Gentiles to live like Jews?”Galatians 2:11-14) which brought about Paul rebuking him for all to see
- The disciples argued about which of them was the greatest of the twelve (Mark 19:33-37)
- The disciples were falling asleep when Jesus asked them to pray (Mark 14: 32-42)
- Paul confesses that he was a wretched man ( The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost.1 Timothy 1:15)
If those who penned the words of the Bible were simply making it up, they would undoubtedly leave out any mention of their failures or flaws in effort to make themselves appear more trustworthy and therefore, their message more believable. But that is not what we see at all. So in a way, the failures of the Bible's characters, actually makes them more believable.
