The Deity of Christ

Jesus always was and always will be God the Son (The second person of the The Christian Godhead as one God in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.Trinity). When he was born from a human mother he was God ( The act of God the Son where he took to himself a human nature.incarnation), when he died on the cross he was God and - most importantly - after he resurrected from the dead he was God. John 1:1 tells us that 'In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God. Then in verse 14 we read that 'the word became flesh and dwelt among us'. What follows are several examples from Any part of the Bible itself, which consists of the Old Testament (39 Books) and New Testament (27 Books).scripture that which lead us to believe that Jesus is the Son of God.

For starters, the Greek word theos (God) in the New Testament usually refers to God the Father. However, there are a few places where the oldest and better manuscripts use the word theos in reference to God the Son (Jesus). These include (1:1) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.(1:18) No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father's side, he has made him known.(20:28) Thomas answered him, "My Lord and my God!"John 1:1; 1:18; 20:28; To them belong the patriarchs, and from their race, according to the flesh, is the Christ who is God over all, blessed forever. Amen.Romans 9:5; ... waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ...Titus 2:13; But of the Son he says, "Your throne, O God, is forever and ever, the scepter of uprightness is the scepter of your kingdom."Hebrews 1:8; and Simeon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have obtained a faith of equal standing with ours by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ2 Peter 1:1.

The Greek word kyrios (Lord) is used in the Greek translation of the Old Testament ( A Greek version of the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament), made for the Greek-speaking Jews in Egypt. It was translated from the 3rd to the 1st century BC. It was was commonly used during the time of Christ and was adopted by the early Christian ChurchesSeptuagint) as a translation of the word yhwh (Also seen as 'Yahweh', 'The Lord', and 'Jehovah'). It does this 6,814 times in total. So it is safe to say that any Greek speaking Jew during the time of the New Testament would recognize in context, that the word kyrios was referring to the creator of heaven and earth ( In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.Genesis 1:1); the one who had brought them up out of Egypt ( "For I am the Lord who brought you up out of the land of Egypt to be your God. You shall therefore be holy, for I am holy."Leviticus 11:45).

In addition to these Old Testament scriptures, many places in the New Testament use the word 'Lord' (kyrios) to refer to Christ in contexts which can only be understood if we call him Yahweh or God himself. Some of these include (3:3) For this is he who was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah when he said, "The voice of one crying in the wilderness: 'Prepare the way of the Lord; make his paths straight.'"(22:44) "'The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at my right hand, until I put your enemies under your feet'?"Matthew 3:3; 22:44; (1:43) And why is this granted to me that the mother of my Lord should come to me?(2:11) For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.Luke 1:43; 2:11; yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist.1 Corinthians 8:6; And, "You, Lord, laid the foundation of the earth in the beginning, and the heavens are the work of your hands; they will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment, like a robe you will roll them up, like a garment they will be changed. But you are the same, and your years will have no end."Hebrews 1:10-12; On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.Revelation 19:16.

Claims to Christ's Deity:

Evidence of Christ's Deity:

With this information we can see clearly that Jesus was no ordinary man who walked the earth. He is God in flesh, who in his authority said in Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.John 3:36, "everyone that believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him." What is it that we are to obey? The call to believe ( "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life."John 3:16), worship ( Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.Philippians 2:9-11), and follow him ( (10:27) "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me."(12:26) "If anyone serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there will my servant be also. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him."John 10:27; 12:26).
