In Matthew 8 Jesus heals the leper before visiting Peter’s house in (Matt. 8:2-4, 14). However in Mark 1 Jesus heals the leper after visiting Simon Peter’s house (Mark 1:29, 40-42). When was the leper healed?

Obviously the problem here is not whether or not Jesus healed the leper, but when he was healed. In Matthew 8 it seems the man is healed before going to Peter’s house, but in Mark 1 it says that he is healed after. This problem is common among people who try to read the accounts of the gospels as if they are all in chronological order. But when you look at the text of the two chapters you will find that the language is quite different. Matthew chapter 8 tends to use loose terminology which implies that the events weren’t necessarily in chronological order (i.e., when they came down from the mountain, when Jesus entered Peter’s house, etc). Whereas Mark chapter 1 by contrast tends to use more definite language which suggests an emphasis on a sequential order of events (i.e., and immediately he left, rising early in the morning, etc).
