If Jesus is God, then why in John 5:37 did he say “the Father who sent me has himself borne witness about me. His voice you have never heard, his form you have never seen,”? Jesus and God are different. People heard Jesus, but never heard God.
First of all let’s look at the verse in context. It says, “the Father who sent me has himself borne witness about me. His voice you have never heard, his form you have never seen, and you do not have his word abiding in you, for you do not believe the one whom he has sent.”
Many scholars believe that this verse refers to the Jews’ failure to obey God’s unique or inner voice speaking to their hearts, since they were obviously not receptive to what he said (1 Cor. 2:14). Even though they searched the scriptures (John 5:39), they still missed the main message, Christ. In addition, the statement made about the Father bearing witness about him may be a reference to the voice from heaven spoken at Jesus’ baptism, which, just like the later voice from heaven, may have been dismissed as ‘thunder’ (John 12:28-29)
